What is Active Release Technique?
Active release techniques (ART) is a hands-on applied manual therapy modality used by health professionals to alleviate pain, restore joint range of motion and improve soft-tissue extensibility.
First pioneered in the 1990’s, ART is based on the principle that many soft tissue problems can be traced back to “adhesions” or scar tissue. In this system these adhesions are believed to form when trauma produces a rip or tear in soft tissues which then bind together.
If these adhesions remain untreated they will thicken over time sometimes leading to dysfunction and symptoms such as extreme tenderness at specific points along their length.
They can also contribute to other chronic conditions such as tingling sensations or numbness in various parts of the body.
